Who should attend the Paediatric First Aid course?
The course is designed for early years practitioners, nursery and pre-school staff, childminders, teaching assistants, and anyone caring for children in a professional or personal capacity. Its EYFS alignment makes it a popular choice for settings meeting their statutory first aid requirements.
Course Duration:
Total: 12 hours (6 hours eLearning + 6 hours classroom). eLearning must be completed within 6 weeks before the classroom day. Classroom session: typically 09:00 - 16:00, with flexible timings available for group bookings at your venue.
What is covered?
The qualification covers the full breadth of paediatric first aid, from immediate life saving skills to the management of childhood illnesses and conditions:
- The roles and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider, including consent, infection control, and first aid kit contents
- Assessing an emergency scene and carrying out a primary survey (DR ABC)
- CPR and safe AED use for both infants and children, including paediatric pad placement
- The recovery position and ongoing breathing checks
- Recognising and treating choking in infants and children
- Recognising and managing seizures, including focal, generalised, and febrile types
- Wounds and bleeding, from minor cuts and nosebleeds to life threatening bleeding
- Recognising and treating hypovolaemic shock
- Childhood illnesses and medical conditions, including anaphylaxis and allergic reactions, asthma, diabetes, and high temperatures
This course is available monthly at our UK training venues. For groups of 5 or more, it is often more convenient and cost effective to run the training at your workplace.
On completion, you will hold a nationally recognised Paediatric First Aid at Work qualification proving you are trained and compliant to act as a competent first aider in both low and high risk workplaces.
You’ll receive your digital certificate within 48 working hours once you’ve completed and passed the course. Printed copies may take up to 14 working days. If you need proof sooner, we can email confirmation to your employer. Certificates are only issued on full completion, so if you leave midway, please contact us to rearrange.
